DREAM THEATER - 7/15/10
BLOSSOM MUSIC CENTER - CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH
I love Dream Theater! I have seen the band live at least 15 times. It was fantastic to finally get in the pit and take some shots of the band, when they hit the stage at Blossom, opening for Iron Maiden. Besides some "technical difficulities" getting my photo pass, I made it to the pit for a memorable ten minutes of shooting!! All shots taken with the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8.

SCORPIONS - 7/6/10
TIME WARNER CABLE AMPHITHEATER
CLEVELAND, OHIO
It was a night to remember, being able to stand five feet away from my childhood heroes The Scorpions and shoot the first three songs! The 10 1/2 minutes seemed to last for 30 seconds. These are, in my opinion, the finest concert photos I have ever taken. To have Rudolf Schenker and Matthias Jabs mug it up for the camera was simply exhilarating! Since the stage was around five feet high and the drum riser elevated almost to the roof, I used the Nikkor 18-200 for this show. I knew the lights were bright and brilliant and the 18-200 performed very well!!

DAVE MATTHEWS BAND - 6/25/10
BLOSSOM MUSIC CENTER - CUYAHOGA FALLS, OH

What a thrill to shoot at Blossom! I spent much of my childhood and adult life seeing shows there, including DMB's first Blossom show, supporting my favorite DMB release "Under The Table And Dreaming", back in the mid-90's. To now be "in the pit" pointing my lens at the stage is both a great honor and a thrill! All photos taken with the Tamron 28-75. My concert workhorse!!

Senior Portrait Photo Shoot - 6/12/10 - Olmsted Falls, OH

I enjoy stepping outside of my comfort zone and trying new things. My photo shoot with Brittany Benjamin was a lot of fun and a learning experience. Brittany was very relaxed in front of the camera and my first attempt at senior photos went very well. We had a great time! I am very proud of these images and would like to do more portrait photography in the future. Parents of 2011 seniors, book your senior portrait session now!

Kumite Classic/Fast Expo/Caged Kumite MMA Cage Fighting
May 28-30, 2010 - Monroeville, PA Expo Center

My favorite gig of the year! This was my 9th year as staff photographer for the Kumite Classic, the martial arts championship and fitness expo! It is always great to see the many friends I have made there over the years: Bill Viola Jr., and the entire Viola family, Larry Hunter, Ken Olgivie, Rocky Whatule, Jim Lux, and all the amazing 100+ staff at this amazing event are like family.. The Tamron 28-75 got a good 3-day workout, along with the Nikkor 10.5mm fisheye and the Nikkor 35mm. Receiving an award from Bill Biola Jr., was an extreme honor. This year also saw the addition of an officially sanctioned MMA Cage Fighting event, Caged Kumite. The D90 performed very well at high ISO settings of ISO 800-1600. Three days of fun and about 10,000 photos!

I also voiced TV commericlas for The Fast Expo & Caged Kumite

ROCK ON THE RANGE - MAY 22-23, 2010
COLUMBUS CREW STADIUM - COLUMBUS, OHIO

It was a weekend drenched with rain the first day, intense sun and heat the second, around 80,000 people, partying everywhere, and some of the best rock and metal bands around! I kept my focus on the two "side stages" because it was just impossible to do anything on the main stage inside the football stadium, with 30,000 mashed up in front of the stage and very unhappy security. Besides, I was more into the bands on the side stages and thought the main stage lineup was pretty weak. First three songs of each band only!

Ratt 5/15/10 - House Of Blues - Cleveland, Ohio

This was my second time shooting 80's metal sensation Ratt, but the first with original singer Stephen Pearcy. Seeing Pearcy, drummer Bobby Blotzer, and Warren DiMartini was a thrill, as they are all great musicians. I am always stressed when restricted to the first three songs. My stress soon faded when I realized my cam was set perfectly from shooting the whole set of opener Byron Nemeth Group (See gallery below). I slapped on the Tamron, sang along, and got some great shots.

Byron Nemeth Group 5/15/10 - House Of Blues - Cleveland, Ohio

It was fun to shoot my long-time friend and Cleveland guitarist Byron Nemeth and his band on the great stage at House Of Blues, as they opened for Ratt. The crowd was electric, Byron and the band were great, and they converted a lot of Ratt fans into their unique brand of prog rock.

Wish You Were Here 5/1/10 - House Of Blues - Cleveland, Ohio

This was the first of two gigs on a night where the Cavs were playing at home, in the playoffs, and the Indians were also at home. I couldn't miss my longtime friends in Wish and also couldn't miss Shok Paris, so I shot about 45 minutes of Wish's first set and then sped off to The Beachland Ballroom.

Shok Paris 5/1/10 - Beachland Ballroom - Cleveland, Ohio

Gig #2 on this Saturday night found me shooting one of my all time favorite Cleveland metal bands, Shok Paris. I could not miss this show, as Shok Paris would perform, for the first time, their classic debut release, "Go For The Throat." The band was in fine form and sounded as good as they did when they recorded this classic album. A slight chenge in the arrangement of "Can't Fight The Evil" added to an already great song. A great time, great friends, and one of the best bands to ever come from NE Ohio.

Kevin Rudolf 4/28/10 - The Pub - Canton, Ohio

Kevin Rudolf stopped by Canton, Ohio to perform a private concert for a small group of radio contest winners. I didn't really have enough differing photos to create a seperate gallery, so I though I would just post a few here. The Tamron 28-75, with a polzrizer, produced some nice resuls. Kevin rose to #2 on the U.S. charts with his hit single "Let It Rock."

Cellbound 4/10/10 - Peabody's - Cleveland, Ohio

My good friends in Cellbound just keep getting better and better. Saturday night's show at Peabody's was PACKED and the band tore through an hour set that left everyone wanting more. My Nikon D90 was very near it's 100,000 exposure shutter rating, so I decided to have it replaced and found myself without it this weekend. For this show, I dusted off my old Sony H9. Man, did it feel ancient in my hands. The 31-465mm f/2.7-4.5 Zeiss lens is great. The equivalent for my Nikon would probably be $5,000, or more! The high ISO noise is tough to work around, but in one shot, worked very well. Check out the photo below at ISO 1600. All in all, I am happy with the small set of good shots from this P&S cam.

Kittie 3/21/10 - Peabody's - Cleveland, Ohio

Canadian thrashers Kittie tore up Peabody's, flying through a blistering set that not only showcased their superb musicianship, but their commanding stage presence. This band kicks the ass of many of their male counterparts. Guitarist Tara McLeod left me shaking my head in amazement. Thanks to Bill Meis of E1 Music for having me out to photograph and experience this amazing band.

Bonfire 3/19/10 - House Of Blues - Cleveland, Ohio

Another great show at HOB! The Tamron was the main player and just seems like it was made to work with the lighting at HOB. The Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 works well in the pit for diagonal shots across the stage and the fisheye is cool no matter where it is used!!

I worked for seven years as a music writer for Scene Magazine in Cleveland and have been published in numerous other magazines. The media link will get you to some of my published articles and links to publications that have published my photos. I have recorded more than 100 live concerts, many for radio broadcasts. The media link will also take you to a page where you can download audio, including some complete shows!

I am turning the front page of this website into more of a photography blog, since photography has become my main focus over the last 3-5 years. I want to display photos that have never been published, recent photos, and talk of my experiences during gigs. I will still archive and display other media, such as radio audio (Prank calls, anyone?), but will focus on recent photo outings and getting all I can out of my new and expanding Nikon rig.

Hope you enjoy the new look! Free free to email with any comments or suggestions.
